Our Story
HBSS is short for Hill Boys Speed Shop. It was a fun name my old man came up with years ago for our family’s drag racing program. We’d spend nights wrenching, bench racing, and building things with our hands. It was never an actual shop or a professional racing program, but it was (and still is) a home garage with cool cars, late nights, and good memories with friends and family at the track. Using the name today is my way of paying respect to him for teaching me and for giving me access to the tools I needed to be creative in the automotive world and to become a problem solver in life.
Fast forward to today: my curiosity got the best of me, and I couldn’t stop learning how OEM and aftermarket engine management systems work after swapping a modern engine into my ’70 Chevelle. That car (the one on the homepage) is powered by an LT1/TR6060 out of a 2020 Camaro. After countless hours testing, experimenting, and getting help from other tuners on that build and other Gen III & IV GM platforms, I started to get good at it. Good enough that close friends began asking me to calibrate their cars… then friends of friends… and from there it just snowballed.
After a few years of working quietly in the background, I realized there’s a gap in the tuning world when it comes to engine swaps and restomods that put modern power in older vehicles. That’s where HBSS Tuning comes in. This isn’t a full-time shop, it’s a passion project I do alongside running my Insurance Agency. By keeping it part-time and low-volume, I can focus on enjoying the work and making sure each build gets the attention it deserves.
At the end of the day, this is about keeping that home-garage spirit alive: classic cars, modern power, and doing the work because we love it.
